Converting a Digital Video (DV) AVI Can Cause a Low Pitch Hum in the Output File (298079)

Some software that creates an AVI file out of a Digital Video (DV) source may not be converted properly with Windows Media Encoder. When the compressed file is played back, you may hear a low pitch hum.
CAUSE
Some software, such as ULead Studio, saves 32 kHz 12-bit audio, even though the camera is set up to output 48 kHz 16-bit audio. Because the AVI header is not saved correctly, the Encoder does not convert it properly.
RESOLUTION
If possible, capture directly to Windows Media Format using the Encoder. On the Advanced tab, you can select between 12-bit and 16-bit audio.
WORKAROUND
If the camera can export 12-bit audio, programs such as ULead are able to create the AVI properly.
