Visio2002: Drawing Is Printed with the Default Printer Instead of the Printer That You Selected (297465)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Visio 2002 Standard
  • Microsoft Visio 2002 Professional

This article was previously published under Q297465

SYMPTOMS

When you print a Microsoft Visio drawing, the drawing is printed with the default printer instead of the printer that was selected in the Page Setup dialog box.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you do the following:
  1. You open a drawing, and then select a printer other than the default printer in the Page Setup dialog box.
  2. You save the drawing, and then close the drawing.
  3. You quit Visio.
  4. You restart Visio, open the drawing, and then print the drawing without selecting a specific printer.
This behavior can occur because Visio does not retain the printer selection with the drawing file after you close the drawing and quit Visio.

NOTE: Visio does retain the printer selection for the drawing if you close and then reopen the drawing without quitting Visio. When you quit and then restart Visio, the default printer is selected for any drawing that is opened.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, select the printer that you want to use in either the Print dialog box or the Page Setup dialog box before you print your drawing.

You may also want to change the default printer. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click the Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
  2. With your right mouse button, click the printer driver that you want to set as your default printer, and then click Set As Default.

MORE INFORMATION

NOTE: This behavior is different than in previous versions of Visio.
