Visio2002: Error Message When You Save Drawing as a Microsoft Visio 5.0 Drawing: "Visio Internal Error: #2111" (297444)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Visio 2002 Standard
  • Microsoft Visio 2002 Professional

This article was previously published under Q297444

SYMPTOMS

If you attempt to save a Microsoft Visio 2002 drawing as a Microsoft Visio 5.0 drawing, you receive an error message similar to one of the following:
Visio internal error: #2111
Action 1005: Save As

First try closing and reopening the file. Next try restarting Visio.

-or-

Visio internal error: #2111
Action 1004: Save

First try closing and reopening the file. Next try restarting Visio.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Visio 2002 drawing file contains multiple shortcuts. In Visio 2002, you can create multiple shortcuts to a master, or a fill, line, or line-end pattern. This feature is not available in Microsoft Visio 5.0, and as a result, the error message is displayed when you attempt to save the file in Visio 5.0 format.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, delete the shortcuts that are in your Visio 2002 drawing, and then save the file as a Microsoft Visio 5.0 drawing.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
