SYMPTOMS

After you select Shutdown from the Start menu, or press CTL-ALT-DEL and select Shutdown, Windows NT Embedded may incorrectly reboot the computer rather than displaying the "It is now safe to turn your computer off" dialog box.

CAUSE

This is caused by a registry entry that is incorrectly set in Target Designer.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To resolve this problem, change the setting for the registry key

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\PowerdownAfterShutdown

to "0". If this key is set to "1", the system will always reboot.
