How to Disable Internet Authentication Service Automatically Generated Class Attribute Value (297317)

SYMPTOMS

When the Internet Authentication Service (IAS) sends an Access Accept (response) packet, the Class attribute field (25) is filled with an automatically generated value. If the Class attribute is defined by the administrator, that string is appended to this automatically generated value. This behavior can cause interoperability issues with certain network access server (NAS) vendors.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:

NOTE: To view the version, right-click the file in Windows Explorer, click Properties on the shortcut menu, and then click the Version tab.
After you apply this fix, you can disable the automatically generated value for the Class attribute if a user-defined value for the Class attribute exists. This is accomplished by using a new attribute called Generate-Class-Attribute that has been added to the Remote Access Policies (RAP) profile. If you need to disable the automatically generated value in the Class attribute and a user-defined value for the Class attribute exists, set the Generate-Class-Attribute to FALSE. If you do this, only the string that is specified in the Class attribute is sent in the Access Accept (response) packet.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
