You Are Prompted for a New Password When You Use DomainPrep (297303)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Mobile Information 2001 Server

This article was previously published under Q297303

SYMPTOMS

When you run setup.exe /vdomainprep=1 as part of the installation of Mobile Information Server, Setup prompts you for a new password, and a password confirmation. If you enter new passwords when you run Setup to install the Mobile Information Server computer, the passwords are not accepted.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the Message Processor, HTTPConnector, and EntEventSource accounts that are typically created by the DomainPrep utility already exist. DomainPrep does not change the passwords of existing accounts.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, ignore the New Password dialog box, type any password, and when you run Setup to install the server components, enter the original account passwords. Alternatively, if all Mobile Information Server computers have been removed from the environment and the accounts are not being used for any other purpose, delete the three accounts that are described in the "Cause" section of this article before you run setup.exe /vdomainprep=1.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
