SYMPTOMS

A Windows 2000-based computer may register an additional name in the form of "computer name$<03>" by the Messenger service.

CAUSE

This problem can occur because of a problem in the WsLsaGetUserInfo and UserInfoResponse APIs.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Server 2003.
