XADM: Exchange 2000 Does Not Work Correctly with Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 (296986)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server SP1
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP1
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional SP1

This article was previously published under Q296986

SYMPTOMS

After you install Service Pack 1 on a computer that runs Windows 2000 with Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, Exchange 2000 Server may not run correctly. This behavior occurs only when you reregister (reinstall) the Aqueue.dll file.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the Aqueue.dll file does not register for all of the class IDs (CLSID). Specifically, it does not register the Phatq.dll for Exchange 2000 Server. The effect is that the Exchange Server restriction checking code uses the wrong .dll file. The restriction checking does not have the correct configuration information and does not become bound to the metabase. This also causes a memory leak when you shut down the computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
