Setup fails when MS DTC is not configured as a cluster resource (296313)

When you set up a Microsoft SQL Server cluster per the Commerce Server and SQL Server Enterprise Edition documentation, and then attempt to install Commerce Server, setup fails with the following error:
Error 1904: pipeline.dll failed to register (several other errors ensue)
CAUSE We only support running Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) on cluster nodes as a clustered resource. We do not recommend or support running MS DTC in stand-alone mode on a cluster. If you use MS DTC as a non-clustered resource on a Commerce Server cluster, transactions may be orphaned, causing data corruption if a cluster failover occurs.
The SQL Server Enterprise Edition documentation specifies that Comclust.exe (which configures DTC as a cluster resource) must be run prior to setup and after you make other specific changes on the system. (For further detail, see "Comclust.exe" in the SQL Server online documentation).
RESOLUTION
Run Comclust.exe before you run Setup.exe for Commerce Server.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Commerce Server.
