PRB: Commerce Server 2000 Direct Mail Service Is Not Cluster Aware (296288)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Commerce Server 2000

This article was previously published under Q296288

SYMPTOMS

When you configure Commerce Server 2000 in a Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS) cluster, the Direct Mail service fails over to a secondary computer, but the mailings that are in process are not restarted on the new server.

CAUSE

The Direct Mail service in Commerce Server 2000 is not cluster aware.

RESOLUTION

Mailings that were in process on the first server need to be manually restarted on the secondary server after the fail over has occurred.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Commerce Server 2000.

MORE INFORMATION

The Commerce Server 2000 Direct Mail can be failed over to a secondary computer in an MSCS cluster if it is configured as a generic service type. However, the service is not cluster aware. Therefore, the service fails over, but it is not aware that mailings that were in process on the primary server before the fail over occurred need to be restarted. These mailings must be manually restarted on the secondary server, so that they can complete.
