SYMPTOMS

You are unable to use a drag-and-drop operation to move a file to the Address bar in My Computer, Windows Explorer, or on the desktop, or taskbar. When you attempt to do this, the file icon may be unavailable, and the associated program does not start to open the file.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because shell Address bars are not supported as drop targets.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods:
  • If you know the complete path of the file that you want to open, type it in the Address bar.

    -or-
  • If you do not know the complete path, type the drive name in the Address bar, and then browse to your file.

    -or-
  • Double-click the file that you want to open.

    -or
  • Use a drag-and-drop operation to move the file to the Address bar in Microsoft Internet Explorer.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
