Right CTRL Key on USB Keyboard May Not Work Correctly (296226)

SYMPTOMS

When you are using a USB keyboard on a Windows 2000-based computer, the right CTRL key may act partly like a sticky key (such as the NUM LOCK or CAPS LOCK key), and the PAUSE key may act like the BREAK key until you press the right CTRL key again.

CAUSE

This behavior is caused by a code problem in the Human Interface Device (HID) parser driver.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
