XADM: Event ID 3036 and 3024 Messages Occur When You Populate Mailbox Store (296136)

When you run a full population or an incremental population of a mailbox store or public folder store index, the population may fail. The following event messages may be logged in the Application event log:

CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the Microsoft Search service (MSSearch) searches System32 for the language files Wbdbase. language extension and Wbcache. language extension, and these files are absent.
There are two possible causes for absent language files:
- One or more of the default language files Wbdbase.language extension and Wbcache.language extension are absent.
- MSSearch searches for sub language files instead of the default language files. For example, MSSearch searches for Wbdbase.dea and Wbcache.dea (German Austria), instead of Wbdbase.deu and Wbcache.deu (German Germany) respectively.
You can monitor the language files that MSSearch searches by monitoring MSSearch file access by using utilities such as File Monitor (Filemon.exe), that are located at the following Sysinternals Web site:

To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods:
- If one or more of the default language files Wbdbase.language extension and Wbcache.language extension is absent, copy the files from the Exchange 2000 computer installation source to the System32 folder. For example, copy the German Germany default language files Wbdbase.deu and Wbcache.deu from the Exchange 2000 computer installation source to the System32 folder.
- If the MSSearch searches for sub language files of a default language instead of the default language files shipped with Exchange 2000 computer copy the default languages files Wbdbase.default language extension and Wbcache.default language extension into a temporary folder that is renamed to Wbdbase.sub language extension and Wbcache.sub language extension respectively, and then copy the file back to the System32 folder. For example, copy the German Germany default language files Wbdbase.deu and Wbcache.deu to a temporary folder, rename files to Wbdbase.dea and Wbcache.dea, and then copy the files back to the System32 folder.
STATUS
The exact circumstances in which MSSearch searches for sub language files of the default language instead of the default language files that ship with Exchange 2000 computer are being investigated by Microsoft.
