SMS: Build 698 or Later Is Required to Use the Advertview Tool (294905)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to run the Advertisement Status Viewer (Advertview.exe) tool, you may receive the following error message:
WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) build 698 or higher is required to use AdvertView

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Advertview does not run on computers with regional settings that use a comma in place of decimal points.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Systems Management Server (SMS) service pack that contains this hotfix.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, change your regional settings.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Systems Management Server version 2.0.
