OL2001: You Cannot Place Outlook for Windows Items in Outlook 2001 for Mac (294645)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to insert a Microsoft Windows .msg (Microsoft Outlook item) file as an attachment or place an .msg file in a folder in Outlook 2001 for Mac, you may receive one of the following error messages:
The file could not be added to the folder. The action could not be completed.
-or-
The action could not be completed.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Outlook 2001 for Mac does not recognize the .msg file type.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, you can compress the .msg file with a third party utility to another file type, for example, a .sit file or a.zip file, and then place the .msg file in Outlook 2001 for Mac.
