Visio2002: Embedded Object Is Distorted When You Adjust Object Borders Vertically (293937)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Visio 2002 Standard
- Microsoft Visio 2002 Professional
This article was previously published under Q293937 SYMPTOMS
When you create an embedded Microsoft Visio object, and then resize the object borders vertically, the relative position of the shapes in the Visio object becomes distorted.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when all of the following conditions are true:
- The embedded Visio object is created in the other document and not inserted from an existing file.
- The Visio object contains a shape that is statically glued to a node on another shape.
- There is no dynamic connector or place-able shape in the Visio object, which would enable dynamic layout services.
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.
Method 1
Create and save the drawing in Microsoft Visio, and then embed the file in the other document. To do this, follow these steps:
- Create and save the drawing in Microsoft Visio.
- Open the document in which you want to embed the Visio object, and then click Object on the Insert menu.
- In the Object dialog box, click Browse on the Create from File tab.
- Navigate to the folder that contains the Visio drawing that you created in step 1. Select the drawing, click Insert, and then click OK.
Method 2
Make any change in the Visio drawing object after you resize it. This includes moving existing shapes and replacing them in their original positions, or adding and then deleting another shape. To edit the embedded object, follow these steps:
- Double-click the embedded Visio object.
- Drag any shape from the stencil to the Visio page.
- Delete the shape that you just added, and then click anywhere outside the Visio object to cancel the selection.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
