SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft SideWinder Strategic Commander, you may receive the following error message, which is displayed in a white circle with a red X:
Critical system files are missing or corrupted. Please UNPLUG THE DEVICE and reinstall the Strategic Commander software from the compact disc.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you are using the device while logged on to the system with User or Power User rights.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, log on to the system with full Administrative rights.
