Visio2002: Cannot Drag and Drop Shapes After Keyword Search (293282)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Visio 2002 Standard
  • Microsoft Visio 2002 Professional

This article was previously published under Q293282

SYMPTOMS

If you perform a keyword search by using the Find Shape feature to search the Web or the local hard disk, you are unable to move a shape to the drawing page by using a drag and drop operation.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if both of the following conditions are true:

  • The stencil or source of the shape was moved, renamed, or deleted.
  • The Find Shape Index (database) is out of date.
The Find Shape feature uses a database to index the shapes. If you change the source of a shape (for example, if you delete, move, or rename a shape) you can find the shape, but you cannot use a drag and drop operation to move the shape onto a drawing. The list of shapes is stored in a database that is cached to the local hard disk. If you change a stencil, you will need to reindex the Find Shape database so that it is synchronized correctly.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem and keep the list of shapes current, reindex the Find Shape database. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the File menu, click Find Shape.
  2. In the Find Shape task pane, click Update Index.

NOTE: This process will take some time to complete.
