PPT2002: Layout of Auxiliary Connecting Lines Is Incorrect After Organization Chart Conversion (293207)

SYMPTOMS

When you convert an organization chart in a presentation that was created in Microsoft PowerPoint 2000, the layout position of auxiliary connecting lines may be altered. The auxiliary connecting lines may be flipped horizontally. The auxiliary connecting lines may connect different nodes than the ones that they originally connected. They may also extend outside the organization chart frame.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use either of the following methods.

Method 1: Repositioning the Line

Use the edit points on the auxiliary connecting line (elbow connector) to reposition the line. To correct the layout of the line, follow these steps:
  1. Click the connecting line (elbow connector). Notice that a yellow diamond appears at the midpoint of each segment of the connector, and a red dot at each end.
  2. If necessary, expand the height of the window to accommodate the connector's new position.
  3. Click and drag the yellow diamond to reposition the line segment.
  4. Click and drag the red dot to a different text box to attach the end point of the connecting line to a different node in the organization chart.

Method 2: Drawing a New Line

Delete the incorrect line, and draw a new line using the Elbow Connector AutoShape. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Drawing toolbar, click AutoShapes, point to Connectors, and then click Elbow Connector.
  2. Click one of the organization chart nodes that you want to connect, and drag the mouse pointer to the other node.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
