OL2002: You Do Not Receive a Prompt for Duplicate Contacts When You Add Public Folders to a Personal Address Book (291493)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to add a Public folder to your address book from the Public Folder's Summary tab, you may see multiple instances of a Public folder in your address book or you may expect to receive a prompt for changes to a current occurrence of a Public folder.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, manually remove the duplicate entries. To do this:
  1. In the Contacts folder, click the View menu, point to Current View, and then click Define Views.
  2. Double-click the Phone List view.
  3. Click the Full Name column heading once. This sorts the list by Full Name.
  4. Click the first item in the set that you want to delete. Scroll to the last item in the set that you want to delete, and while holding down the SHIFT key, click the last item.
  5. Press DELETE to permanently delete all selected items.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
