Non-default printer properties are not reflected in a Terminal Services redirected printer (291251)

This article was previously published under Q291251 SYMPTOMS When a Terminal Services client connects to a Terminal
Services session, the redirected printer that is automatically created by the
session may not reflect the paper size that is configured for the printer on
the client computer. This behavior can occur if a non-default paper size is
configured on for the local printer on the client computer.
Note
that the local printer driver may vary from the printer driver on the server
because the Terminal Services client may be using any operating system (rather
than only Windows 2000). STATUS This behavior is by design. MORE INFORMATION With Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), there is no way for the
printer settings to be passed from the client to the server during the initial
logon process.
When the client logs off, the configuration changes
for the printer are cached locally for the user so that he or she does not need
to re-create the settings. The exception to this is the Print Defaults page
setting, which the Print Preferences page setting should override. These
changes will be available the next time the client logs on and and the
redirected printer is created.
