WD2002: Template Added to Templates and Add-ins List Is Not Loaded upon Restart of Word (290962)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2002

This article was previously published under Q290962
For a Microsoft Word 2000 version of this article, see 224766.

SYMPTOMS

When you add a template to your Templates and Add-ins list (on the Tools menu, click Templates and Add-ins), the check box for the template may not remain selected, and, therefore, the template is not automatically loaded when you restart Microsoft Word.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the template must reside in the Word Startup folder to be automatically loaded when you start Word.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, move or copy your template to the Microsoft Word 2002 Startup folder. The default location for the Word Startup folder is as follows:
  • In Microsoft Windows 98 and Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) without profiles enabled:

    C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup

  • In Windows 98 and Windows Me with profiles enabled or in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0:

    C:\Windows\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup

  • In Microsoft Windows 2000:

    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup

NOTE: Username is the user's logon name.
