SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft Office XP System Policy Template (included with the Office XP Resource Kit) to expand Security Settings under Microsoft Office XP, the following check box is displayed:

Prevent downloading of all HTTP images in binary Office documents

When you click to select this check box, and then activate it by clicking to select the Check to enforce setting on; uncheck to enforce setting off check box, you are still able to download images from the Internet in Office XP.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

When you click to select the Prevent downloading of all HTTP images in binary Office documents check box, and then activate it by clicking to select the Check to enforce setting on; uncheck to enforce setting off check box, the following DWORD value is created:
   Name Data
   BlockHTTPImages 0x00000001(1)

This value appears in the following registry subkey:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Common

When you create this registry value by using a system policy or by directly editing the registry, it has no effect on your ability to download images from the Internet.
