This article was previously published under Q290458

SYMPTOMS

After you start a search for text in a scanned document, you are unable to cancel the search as expected.

NOTE: When you press ESCAPE, or try to click Cancel in the Find dialog box, nothing happens. At this point, the Find dialog box is not available and the mouse pointer is changed to an hourglass during the search process.

WORKAROUND

You cannot work around this issue; you must wait for the current search to be completed. However, if the search text is found in the document, the Find dialog box is once again available. Click Cancel or press ESC to close the Find dialog box and cancel the search operation.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

When you search for text within a large scanned document, the search may take a long time to complete, depending on the speed of your computer and the size of the document. During the search process, no status indicator is displayed.
