A "STOP 0x0000002D" error message is typically caused by a hardware problem, but other factors may be involved.
  1. Check your computer for viruses. Note that viruses can infect both FAT and NTFS file systems.Microsoft does not provide software that can detect or remove computer viruses. If you suspect or confirm that your computer is infected with a virus, obtain current antivirus software.   2. Check for hard disk damage. If you are using the FAT file system and have not yet installed Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, use ScanDisk or another MS-DOS-based tool to verify the integrity of your hard disk. Note that when you run ScanDisk from an MS-DOS prompt, it can damage long file names. If you are using the NTFS file system, or you have already installed Windows NT 4.0, try to boot to a previous version of Windows NT to run the chkdsk /f /r command. If you cannot boot to a previous version of Windows NT, try to install to a parallel folder to run the chkdsk /f /r command.
  3. Check for RAM damage.
  4. Verify that all of your adapters are properly seated in the mainboard, and if needed, clean the adapter contacts.
  5. Check for cracks, scratched traces, or bad components on the mainboard.
  6. Run hardware diagnostics on the entire computer system. If needed, take the computer to a repair facility for diagnostic testing.
  7. Update all device drivers to the most current versions.
