"Stop 0x000000CE" in Vga.dll When You Try to Change Display Settings (290114)

SYMPTOMS

When you click the Settings tab in the Display Properties dialog box, the following Stop error may occur:
STOP: 0x000000CE (0xbfc19492, 0x00000000, 0xbfc19492, 0x00000000) DRIVER_UNLOADED_WITHOUT_CANCELLING_PENDING_OPERATION

This Driver May be at Fault: VGA.DLL
Note that the first and third parameters may vary.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if Symantec PCAnywhere version 9.0 or 10.0 is installed. This issue occurs because of a compatibility issue with the PCAnywhere display dynamic-link library (DLL).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use any of the following methods:
  • Uninstall PCAnywhere, and then change the display settings.
  • Uninstalling and reinstall PCAnywhere, and then change the display settings.
  • Start PCAnywhere, click Tools, click Application Options, and then click Host Operation. Change Host video mode to Compatible.
