SYMPTOMS

When you select the Subject check box on the Other Elements tab in the Letter Wizard, and you create a letter, the Subject check box may not be selected when you use the Letter Wizard again.

NOTE: To start the Letter Wizard, point to Letters and Mailings on the Tools menu, and then click Letter Wizard.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, do not point to Letters and Mailings on the Tools menu and click Letter Wizard to start your letter. Instead, start your letter by using the Letter Wizard template. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the File menu, click New.
  2. On the New Document task pane, click General Templates.
  3. On the Letters & Faxes tab, click to select Letter Wizard, click to select Document (under Create New), and then click OK.
  4. On the Other Elements tab in the Letter Wizard, click Subject, and then complete the wizard.
After you create your letter, you can point to Letters and Mailings on the Tools menu and click Letter Wizard, and Subject will be correctly selected on the Other Elements tab.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
