The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Site Server 3.0
  • Microsoft Site Server 3.0 Commerce Edition

This article was previously published under Q288781

SYMPTOMS

When you shut down a Site Server 3.0 LDAP server that communicates with a separate SQL Server computer, the SQL Server sessions may not be removed.

When the LDAP service is restarted after you restart the Site Server 3.0 system, new sessions are established. This results in twice the number of sessions that are being used on the SQL Server computer. These abandoned sessions are typically removed after two hours.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do one of the following:
  • Change the shutdown procedure. Before you shut down the server, open Control Panel Services, stop the Site Server LDAP service, and then shut down the computer as usual. -or-

  • Change the KeepAliveTime TCP setting in the SQL Server registry to remove the abandoned session earlier than the default time of two hours.
