XCCC: Error Message Occurs When You Create an Instant Messaging Virtual Server (288370)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Exchange System Manager to create an Instant Messaging virtual server in the Servers\server name\Protocols\RVP container, you may receive the following error message:
The 'InstMsg' virtual directory on this IIS web server is corrupt or may be in use by another application. You may need to delete and re-create this IIS web server.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if an Instant Messaging virtual server already exists on the Web site where you are attempting to add the Instant Messaging virtual server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use either of the following methods:
  • Rename or delete the existing Instant Messaging virtual directory from the Internet Services Manager on the Instant Messaging server, and then continue until the Instant Messaging Virtual Server Wizard has finished.

  • Create or use a second Web site for the Instant Messaging virtual server to use.
