OL2000: Error Message Appears When You Start Import/Export Wizard (288256)

This article was previously published under Q288256 SYMPTOMS When you start the Import/Export Wizard in Outlook 2000 (in
either the Internet Mail Only or the Corporate or Workgroup installation), you
may receive the following error message: MSOutlook
cannot start the import/export engine, an error occurred and this feature is no
longer functioning properly, would you like to repair? You
may also find that the Import and Export option on the
File menu is dimmed. RESOLUTION To resolve this behavior, repair Microsoft Office 2000:
- Search for Mapi*.* files, and then rename to *.old any that
have an .exe, .dll, or .inf file name extension.
- Locate and then delete the following files if they exist:
Extend.dat, Views.dat, Outcmd.dat, Frmcache.dat, and Outform.dat.
- Restart the computer.
- Start Task Manager, and then quit the programs that are
running, by clicking the program and then clicking End Task. Do this for all the programs except Systray.exe and
Explorer.exe.
- Insert the Office 2000 CD-ROM into the drive, click Repair Office 2000, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
- Restart the computer.
