Fax Service Did Not Install Properly During Upgrade to SBS 4.5 (288139)

SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS) 4.0 to version 4.5, the Fax Service may not install properly during the upgrade. When you view the SBS console, you see that the Manage Faxes settings state that the Fax Service is not installed. The Add/Remove Programs settings in Control Panel indicate that the Fax Service is installed; however, you cannot uninstall and reinstall the Fax Service by using the Add/Remove Programs tool.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, reinstall the Fax Service from the SBS 4.5 CD-ROM:
  1. Insert SBS 4.5 CD-ROM Number 2 into the drive.
  2. Start a command prompt, and go to the Fax\i386 folder on the CD-ROM.
  3. Run Faxsetup.exe to reinstall the Fax Service software.
