"Selected Object Has Associated Objects" Message Occurs When You Delete an Auxiliary Account (287773)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Mobile Information 2001 Server

This article was previously published under Q287773

SYMPTOMS

When you delete an auxiliary account, and the original account has a mailbox on an Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server computer, you may receive the following message:

The selected object has other associated objects. Select those associated objects that you also want to delete.

Mark each selected Exchange mailbox for deletion.

CAUSE

This issue can occur because when you create the wireless account, the account is granted Full Mailbox Access and Read permissions to the Exchange Server mailbox.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, click Yes to delete the auxiliary account. Although the message indicates that the Exchange Server mailbox is marked for deletion, it is not deleted because the wireless account does not have Delete Mailbox Storage permissions.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

When you configure Mobile Information Server, you can use either the Use existing account option or the Create new accounts option. If you use the Create new accounts option, an auxiliary account is created for each wireless user in the same domain as the user account, or in the auxiliary domain if you specified one. The auxiliary account has the same alias as the regular user account but a -W suffix is added, by default. For example, when you configure User1 as a wireless user, an account named User1-W is automatically created in the designated auxiliary domain for that domain.
