ACC2002: "Microsoft Access Can't Open the File" Error When You Rest the Mouse Pointer over a Report Name (287444)

This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).

SYMPTOMS

When you rest the mouse pointer over a report name in the Database window, you receive the following error message:
Microsoft Access can't open the file '<Path to file>'.

CAUSE

A linked image in the report has been moved or renamed.

RESOLUTION

Make sure that all the images that are used in the report are present in the folder and have the same name as listed in the Picture property of the image control.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Create a new blank database.
  2. Create a new report in Design view.
  3. Add an image control in the details section of the report.
  4. Browse to an image file on your computer.
  5. Double-click the image control to display the property sheet for the control.
  6. On the Format tab, set the PictureType property to Linked.
  7. Save the report, and then close it.
  8. Browse to the image file that you added to the report, and then rename the image file to something other than its original name.
  9. In the Database window in Access, rest your mouse pointer over the name of the report that you just created.
  10. Note that you receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
