XL2000: Cannot See Cubes Created in SQL 2000 Server Analysis Services (287079)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 2000

This article was previously published under Q287079

SYMPTOMS

When you create a PivotTable in Microsoft Excel 2000, when you attempt to specify an OLAP cube, you may not see the cube of data that you want to use in the Select the Cube that contains the data you want box.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when both of the following conditions are true:
  • The database server uses On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) version 8.0.

    -and-
  • Your computer does not have the OLAP 8.0 OLE database provider installed.
Microsoft Office 2000 installs the OLAP 7.0 OLE database provider; therefore, only the cubes that can be queried with the OLAP 7.0 provider are visible.

RESOLUTION

To show all cubes from an Analysis Services server, follow these steps to install an OLAP 8.0 provider:
  1. Insert the SQL Server 2000 CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive. Click Exit to close the program that starts automatically.
  2. Browse to the folder CD-ROM drive:\Msolap\Install\PTS.
  3. Do one of the following:

Double-click PTSLite to install PivotTable Service files only.

    -or-

Double-click PTSFull.exe to install the PivotTable Service files and Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC).
  4. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
