WD2002: Works 2001 Add-in Causes Run-Time Error '438' When Word 2002 Starts (286874)

SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Word 2002 for the first time after upgrading from Microsoft Office 2000, you may receive the following error message:
Run-time error '438':

Object doesn't support this property or method.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the Microsoft Works 2001 add-in is not correctly configured for Word 2002 and does not add itself to the menu when Word 2002 starts.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, remove the Works 2001 add-in. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. In the Options dialog box, click the File Locations tab.
  4. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Word in Works Suite Add-in, and then click Add/Remove.
  5. Follow the prompts to complete the removal of the add-in.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
