WD2002: Table Borders Missing from Tables That Span Several Pages (286844)

SYMPTOMS

When a table spans two or more pages, any outside border formatting appears at the top and bottom of the table sections that are visible on each page, not just at the top and bottom of the whole table.

However, when you open a document that was created in an earlier version of Microsoft Word, you find that tables that span two or more pages are missing top and bottom border formatting, except at the very top and bottom of the table.

CAUSE

The document was saved in Rich Text Format by an earlier version of Microsoft Word.

WORKAROUND

Re-apply the outside border formatting in Word 2002, and save the document as a Word 2002 document. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click any cell in the table. On the Table menu, point to Select, and then click Table.
  2. On the Format menu, click Borders and Shading.
  3. In the Borders and Shading dialog box, on the Borders tab, under Setting, click the border setting that you want, and then click OK.
  4. On the File menu, click Save As.
  5. In the Save As dialog box, in the Save as type box, select Word Document, and then click Save.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
