Links to Programs You Uninstalled from Windows XP Still Appear in Windows 98 Second Edition Start Menu (286730)

If you uninstall a program from your Windows XP Home Edition-based computer, and then uninstall Windows XP Home Edition and restore your Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition installation, links to the program you uninstalled still appear on the Start menu. If you click this link, the link may not work, and you may receive an error message that indicates the link is not valid, or refers to a file that is missing from your computer. Note that this behavior occurs even if you uninstall more than one program.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the program you uninstalled from your Windows XP Home Edition-based computer was installed while you were still running Windows 98 Second Edition. As a precautionary feature (in case you want to restore your previous operating system), Windows XP Home Edition does not support the removal of program links that were installed while you ran a previous operating system.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue and remove a link from the Start menu on your Windows 98 Second Edition-based computer, right-click the link, and then click Delete.
