System Restore Does Not Restore Compression (286103)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional

This article was previously published under Q286103

SYMPTOMS

System Restore does not restore compression on files or folders.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because System Restore does not record changes in compression, nor does it undo them. This is because changes in compression does not cause the system to fail.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

If you create a restore point, compress a file or folder, and then revert the system back to the point at which they were uncompressed, the file or folder remains compressed after the restore process.
