SUMMARY

If you want to use Microsoft Outlook 2000 on Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional-based client computers to properly send faxes, the Small Business Server Fax Mail Transport component must be added as a service in Outlook 2000.

Some of the following symptoms of an improper client configuration include:
  • Users cannot send faxes from Outlook 2000.
  • When the user sends faxes with attachments from Outlook 2000, the Fax Send utility opens, prompting the user for additional information before sending the fax.
  • Users do not receive fax confirmation e-mail messages when sending faxes.

To configure Outlook 2000 for the Small Business Server Fax Mail Transport component on a Small Business Server 4.5-based server, perform the following steps:

  1. Set up the fax client according to the instructions located at the following Microsoft Web site:
  2. Right-click the Outlook 2000 icon and click Properties.
  3. On the Services tab, click Add. Click SBS Fax Mail Transport and SBS Fax Address Book, and then click OK.
  4. Click the Delivery tab. If Fax Mail Transport is listed, move SBS Fax Mail Transport above it by clicking SBS Fax Mail Transport, and then clicking the Up Arrow button until SBS Fax Mail Transport is listed above Fax Mail Transport.
  5. Click Apply and click OK.
To configure fax e-mail message confirmations, perform the following steps:
  1. In Control Panel, click SBS Fax.
  2. On the General tab, fill in the e-mail address field with the alias listed for the user in Exchange Administrator. Click Recipients Container, and then go to the user's mailbox properties.
  3. Click OK.
