PPT2002: Multiple Master Formatting Is Not Displayed When You Open Presentation in PowerPoint 4.0 or 95 (285413)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2002
This article was previously published under Q285413 SYMPTOMS
When you open an Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint 4.0 or Microsoft PowerPoint 95 (by installing a translator on the computer that the earlier version of PowerPoint is installed on), multiple-master formatting is not displayed in the presentation as expected.
For example, if your presentation contains several slides that use several slide masters, and you open the presentation in PowerPoint 4.0 or PowerPoint 95, formatting from only the default design template is applied to all of the slides.
NOTE: If you apply more than one design template and you then save the presentation in PowerPoint 4.0 or PowerPoint 95, current multiple masters are deleted, and the default design template is applied to all slides.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the translators for PowerPoint 4.0 and PowerPoint 95 do not support multiple masters in a presentation.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, save the PowerPoint 2002 presentation as a PowerPoint 95 (*.ppt) presentation -- using a different name so that you don't overwrite the original -- and then view the presentation in PowerPoint 4.0 or PowerPoint 95. To save the presentation in an earlier version of PowerPoint, follow these steps:
- Open the presentation in PowerPoint 2002.
- On the File menu, click Save As.
- Type a new name in the File Name box.
- In the Save As Type list, click PowerPoint 95 (*.ppt).
- Click Save.
- Close the presentation, and then open the new copy with the earlier version of PowerPoint.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
