PPT2000: WindowActivate and WindowDeactivate Events Run Twice When You Switch Between Presentations (285405)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft PowerPoint 2000, the WindowActivate and WindowDeactivate events may unexpectedly run twice when you switch between PowerPoint presentations.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if all of the following conditions are true:
  • The macro contains a WindowActivate and a WindowDeactivate event.

    -and-
  • You have the single document interface (SDI) functionality turned on, and you have more than one presentation open.

    -and-
  • Your computer has Active Desktop installed.
Under these conditions, the WindowActivate and WindowDeactivate events run twice every time that you switch presentations.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, turn off SDI. To do this, follow these steps:

NOTE: If you turn off SDI, you see only one instance of PowerPoint open on the status bar, regardless of how many presentations are open.
  1. Start PowerPoint 2000.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. In the Options dialog box, click the View tab.
  4. On the View tab, click to clear the Windows in taskbar check box, and then click OK.

STATUS

This problem was corrected in Microsoft PowerPoint 2002.
