SYMPTOMS

When you start the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel tool in Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, you may discover that it is incorrectly displayed as multiple dialog boxes.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when the Control Panel has become corrupted.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, perform an in-place upgrade:
  1. Insert the Windows 2000 Professional installation CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. When the Welcome to Windows 2000 Setup Wizard page appears, click Install Windows 2000.
  3. Click Upgrade to Windows 2000 (Recommended).
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions for completing the installation.
