PUB2002: Bullets Are Printed as the Letter "E" (285357)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 2002

This article was previously published under Q285357

SYMPTOMS

When you create a publication that contains bullet tabs and then print the publication on a Hewlett-Packard CLJ 8500-PS printer, the bullets may appear as a series of E characters instead of a series of dots.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the Hewlett-Packard CLJ 8500-PS printer is printing with its built-in printer fonts instead of the TrueType fonts that you selected in Publisher.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, force the printer to use TrueType fonts in place of built-in printer fonts. To force your printer use TrueType fonts, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings and then click Printers.
  2. In the Printers dialog box, double-click HP CLJ 8500-ps .
  3. On the Printer menu, click Properties.
  4. In the HP CLJ 8500-ps PostScript Properties dialog box, click the Fonts tab.
  5. On the Fonts tab, click Always use TrueType fonts, and then click Ok.
