Cannot Find Drivers For WDM or USB Modem (285349)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install a Windows Driver Model (WDM) or Universal Serial Bus (USB) modem, the Add New Hardware Wizard reports the following error message after searching for the best drive for your device, or after you select a driver from a specific location:
Windows was unable to locate a driver for this device.

If you do not want to install a driver now, click Next.

To search again, click Back.

CAUSE

Windows 98 does not provide support for WDM or USB modems. This functionality is included in Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, update your operating system to Windows 98 Second Edition or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me). View the following Microsoft Web site for information about product features and minimum system requirements.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
