Combat Flight Simulator: Enemy Aircraft Are Not Displayed on the Tactical Display (285033)

SYMPTOMS

When you play Combat Flight Simulator, enemy aircraft may not be displayed on the Tactical Display.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if one or more of the following conditions is true:
  • You are not using the correct Tactical Display View (mode).
  • The game configuration file is damaged or has changed.
  • Your video adapter drivers are outdated.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the following methods in the order in which they are presented.

Change the Tactical Display View

Combat Flight Simulator 3.0

To toggle the Tactical Display on or off in Combat Flight Simulator 3.0, Press SHIFT-T.

With Tactical Display you can see the tactical situations of five areas (or views):

Aircraft
Vehicles
Ships
Buildings
Airbases
All

Combat Flight Simulator 2

To change the Tactical Display view in Combat Simulator 2, click Tactical Display on the View menu, and then click one of the following views:
  • Air
  • Ground
  • Sea
  • Vehicles
To quickly switch between views, press T on your keyboard.

Delete the Cfs2.cfg File

NOTE: This does not apply to Combat Flight Simulator 3.0.

To delete the Cfs2.cfg file:
  1. Click Start, point to Find or Search, and then click Files or Folders or For Files or Folders.
  2. In the Named or Search for files or Folders named box, type cfs2.cfg.
  3. In the Look in box, click My Computer.
  4. Click Find Now or Search Now.
  5. In the list of found files, right-click the CFS2.cfg file, and then click Delete.
  6. When you are prompted to confirm the file deletion, click Yes.
  7. Close all of the open windows on the desktop.

Install an Updated Video Driver

To obtain and install the latest video driver for the video adapter, contact the manufacturer of your video adapter.

To identify the manufacturer and the model of your video adapter:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click System.
  3. If you are using a Microsoft Windows 95-based or a Microsoft Windows 98-based computer, click the Device Manager tab.

    If you are using a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
  4. Click the PLUS SIGN (+) next to Display adapters to expand the branch.
  5. Under the Display adapters branch, note the manufacturer and the model of your video adapter, and then click OK.
  6. Close all of the open windows on the desktop.
