Object Picker Does Not Resolve Alternative User Principal Name in an External Trust (283546)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
This article was previously published under Q283546 SYMPTOMS
In a domain with an external trust, when you create a user account that includes an alternative user principal name (UPN) suffix, Object Picker may not resolve the name. The following error message may appear:
An object named alternative UPN cannot be found. Check the selected object types and location for accuracy and ensure that you typed the object name correctly, or remove this object from the selection.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the UPN suffix does not provide some kind of routing hint that shows which domain the user account belongs to. Object Picker searches only the domain that is listed in the From this location box.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, specify the domain to search:
- In the Object Picker, click Locations.
- In the From this location box, specify the domain where the user account is located.
- Click OK.
STATUSThis behavior is by design.
