SYMPTOMS

The Exchange system attendant does not start. The following events are recorded in the event log.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the system account no longer has access to the Server container in Active Directory sites.

RESOLUTION

  1. Verify that the domain controllers are visible in Active Directory Sites and Services. If they are not visible, check the state of those domain controllers and Active Directory replication.
  2. Ensure that the Exchange Service account or Local System account have rights to those containers where the domain controllers exist. Generally, the System account should be listed in the permission list of these containers.
  3. Check if the Authenticated Users group have Read rights on those two objects. By default, authenticated users should have Read rights.
