Microsoft has created a Microsoft PowerPoint add-in that lets you rename shapes on PowerPoint slides. This add-in can help Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) programmers who need to manipulate or modify shapes and other objects in presentations.

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to prevent any unauthorized changes to the file. When you double-click the RenameMe.exe file, the RenameMe.ppa file is extracted to the folder that you choose. Microsoft recommends that you place the RenameMe.ppa file in the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office

To set up the add-in, follow these steps:
  1. Start Microsoft PowerPoint. If you see the startup dialog box, click Cancel.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Add-Ins.
  3. Click Add New.
  4. Click the RenameMe.ppa file, and then click OK.
You can use this add-in in two ways:
  • After you select a shape on a slide, click Rename Shape on the Tools menu.

    -or-
  • You can quickly rename shapes by using the button that is added to the Visual Basic Toolbar. (On the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click Visual Basic.)
