1. INSTALLATION NOTES

1.1 Minimum System Requirements for Palm Sync
------------------------------------------------------------------
Palm Sync requires that you have a 3Com Connected Organizer running Palm OS 2.0 or later. You must have the MacPac version 2 installed on your computer. You can download the MacPac version 2 from:

http://www.palm.com/support/macintosh/macpacv1.html

Users of USB Macs must also download the USB Fix:

http://www.palm.com/support/macintosh/macpacv1.html

NOTE: You do not need to download the USB fix if you are using Palm(TM Desktop version 2.5

1.2 International
------------------------------------------------------------------
Palm Sync is only supported on the US release of Outlook Express 5. It may work on European localized versions, however, the MacPac version 2 software is not localized and is only available in English.

1.3 Installation
------------------------------------------------------------------
To install Palm Sync for Outlook Express 5:

1. Open the Extras folder in the Outlook Express 5 Folder.
2. Launch the Palm Sync Installer

An OEConduit file will be placed in your Conduits folder in the Palm folder.

NOTE: If you use Palm Sync in Outlook Express 5 or Outlook Express 5.01 you must run the Palm Sync installer contained in the Extras folder in the Outlook Express 5.02 folder.

1.4 Synchronizing with Palm(TM) Desktop
------------------------------------------------------------------

You cannot synchronize contacts stored in your Palm Organizer with both Outlook Express 5 and Palm(TM) Desktop.

2. CONFIGURATION

2.1 Setup
------------------------------------------------------------------
Once you run the Palm Sync Installer you can configure Outlook Express to Sync with a Palm Organizer. The Configuration options for Palm Sync are not located in the HotSync application, but in Outlook Express 5.

To configure Outlook Express 5 for Palm Sync:

2. Select Palm Sync Setup from the File Menu
3. Check Enable Palm Synchronization
4. Configure your Sync options

You can now proceed with Synchronization.

2.2 Synchronizing with Multiple Outlook Express Identities
------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are using the multiple identities feature in Outlook Express, the name of your Outlook Express identity must be the same as your Palm user name for synchronization to occur.

To determine your Palm user name:

1. Launch the HotSync program on your Macintosh.
2. On the HotSync menu, click Edit Users. The Users window appears and lists Palm user names for your Palm Organizer.
3. In the Users window, identify your Palm user name.
4. Rename your Outlook Express identity to match your Palm user name.

To rename an Outlook Express identity:

1. Launch Outlook Express 5.
2. On the File Menu, click Switch Identity.
3. Click the identity you want to rename, and then click Rename.
4. Type a new name for the identity.

NOTE: An identity name can contain up to 20 characters, including spaces.

2.3 Synchronizing with Multiple Palm Organizers
------------------------------------------------------------------
If you want to synchronize more than one Palm Organizer with your Macintosh, you need to rename the Main Identity in Outlook Express so that it is the same name as the Palm user you want to synchronize Outlook Express data with. Failure to do so may result in unwanted data duplication.

To rename the Main Identity in Outlook Express:

1. Launch Outlook Express 5.
2. On the File menu, click Switch Identity.
3. Click Main Identity, and then click Rename.
4. Type the user name you want to synchronize Outlook Express data with.

2.4 Synchronization Options
------------------------------------------------------------------
The Outlook Express Conduit has four different Synchronization options. These options are configured from the Palm Sync Setup dialog of Outlook Express. To display this dialog, click Palm Sync Setup on the File Menu.

NOTE: To Synchronize a Palm contact with Outlook Express contact, the Sync with Palm Organizer check box must be selected in the Outlook Express contact.

Synchronize
------------------------------------------------------------------
Changes that have occurred in Outlook Express and the Palm are synchronized. If both contacts have been modified, they will be duplicated on the Palm Organizer and in Outlook Express. An error will appear in the HotSync log.

3. TROUBLESHOOTING

3.1 Problems Synchronizing with Outlook Express 5
------------------------------------------------------------------
There could be a number of reasons why you may have problems synchronizing contacts with Outlook Express 5. First, check the HotSync log to determine what the error is. The log file can be accessed from the HotSync menu in the HotSync manager application on your Macintosh.

If you are synchronizing and you feel that none of the changes that you have made are getting transferred you may need to force the conduit to perform a SLOW SYNC.

To Perform a SLOW SYNC:

1. Press the HotSync button on your Palm Organizer
2. Hold down the SHIFT key on your keyboard until you see the OE Conduit appear that it is synchronizing.
