SYMPTOMS

When you index large documents, the Gatherer Log may record entries such as "Filter output size has been limited by MaxGrowFactor," and the document is not completely indexed.

CAUSE

The output from document filters in Site Server Search is limited to 16MB. A large document may produce more that 16MB of filtered output. The "Filter output size has been limited by MaxGrowFactor" message is erroneous, and changing the MaxGrowFactor registry value does not remove the limitation.

WORKAROUND

If possible, break up the documents to produce a smaller amount of filtered output.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
